Hello guys so today I have exiting news for you. I got a follow up interview with Isabella. She was very nice when I asked her and you can see she put a lot of time into it. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did doing ht interview. Okay so here it is:
• What’s the best advice you’ve gotten from another fashion designer?
The best advice I have gotten was from a designer that I met in London, Señor Colunga (http://www.colunga.co.uk/). He told me to start simple, with simple designs and really learn how to make a proper garment. I started sewing simple clothing and then slowly added my aesthetic, as well as the details I wanted when I was first learning.
• How can you describe your fashions and style?
My personal style is definitely more of a street vibe. I like to mix a street vibe with some more girly pieces in my collection.
• What’s your favorite part of being a fashion designer?
The design process is definitely my favorite part, sketching, designing and choosing fabric.
• What message do you want to portray in your clothes?
The power of girls of course. As well as the courage it takes to put yourself out there and be creative!
• How important do you think it is for an aspiring Fashion designer to attend fashion school? ( Please be very specific with your answer)
I think it is important to take fashion and design courses or learn from a mentor. I started by taking sewing classes and fashion illustration classes. I think there is value in attending a fashion or design school BUT there are many designers that have different backgrounds such as Art, Art History, Architecture, etc. I personally have taken fashion courses at the college level but I am a Fine Arts major. At the end of the day just do what you love ! There are many different paths to get to the same place.
• Knowing what you know about how much it costs to produce clothing, are you a believer in “never paying full price?”
No, I am not a believer in never paying full price. I know how much effort it takes and costs to create a pice of clothing. It is a costly endeavour for me to design and make clothing in the USA.
• Do I NEED to be in New York if I want to get into fashion design?
No you do not. I live in Texas.
• Did you ever considered going on a reality show, like Project Runway to promote your brand?
I have had offers to do several shows like those and I might do it one day.
- If I’ve got an idea for a new piece of clothing, what’s the fastest way to actually get a prototype created?
MAKE IT. SIT DOWN. PATTERN IT. CUT IT. SEW IT.
• How do you stay up to date with fashion?
I read fashion blogs, look at Tumblr, read fashion magazines and WWD ( Women’s Wear Daily) is a must. There are websites such as style.com that I frequent check as well.
•How did you manage to have a nice balance with school work and fashion?
It is always a struggle to maintain a balance but I work it out. I am constantly tweaking my schedule to make it manageable and to make sure I have fun along the way 🙂
