Want to here more on the life of a real successful fashion designer? Then take a look at Isabella Rose Taylor’s life
Supper fan of this amazing young lady. For the people that don’t really know her I would recommend to check her out before reading this interview. I will be linking her blog at the end of the post.
- Who is your fashion inspiration? I have many people who are my fashion inspiration such as Marc Jacobs, Rag and Bone, Stella McCartney, Isabel Marant to name a few.
- How hard is to build a career as a fashion designer? And what tips would you suggest? It takes a lot of persistence and determination to build a career as a fashion designer. I would suggest to try and find mentors in your community and take advantage of learning everything you can by submersing yourself in your passion.
- Is being a fashion designer any different from what you imagined? Yes, being a fashion designer is different from what I had imagined. I did not realise that there is such a large business side to learn about the industry. The creative part is the real fun and joy for me.
- What’s always been you inspiration when hard times come? When I feel stuck and need inspiration I find that looking around at art or going to a museum really helps inspire me.
- How do you see yourself in 5 years? In 5 years, I would love to be a global brand, expand into accessories and be a mentor to others.
- You’ve been recognized world wide how does that feel? It feels very surreal, sometimes I just cannot believe it.
- How has art helped you in your career? I like to look at everything from an art perspective so I think it helps me with my fashion in terms of taking a 2D ( 2 dimension) and making it into a 3D (3 dimension) item. Art has helped me in terms of developing my color palette, my design aesthetic and also discipline to just keep trying to make things.
- What kind of attitude should you have in order to get to the top? (Fashion designer) You need to have passion, put in a lot of hard work, be creative, ask for help and seek out mentors or advisors that believe in you.
- What makes you different from your competition? I am not sure what makes me different but I am 13 years old so I am younger. I am also a painter so maybe that is providing me with a different perspective. I am a teenager designing for other teenagers and I know what we like to wear.
- How do you build a network? To build a network you need to start looking for opportunities to meet other like minded people. I am a member of Dell Women Entrepreneur Network which provides connections and support to female business owners, joining in women’s business organisations, fashion organisations and taking classes, visiting factories and really putting yourself out there will help you build a network of people. Success is rarely achieved alone and you need to seek out opportunities and people.
